Asian Paper Doll Canvas

I have gone back to my childhood love of paper dolls! Playing with the Julie Nutting paper doll stamps is such fun. For Christmas, I got two wonderful books written by artist Julie Nutting. They are "Collage Couture Studio Paper Dolls" and "Collage Couture." Between those books and gift cards to two art supply shops, I was made the happiest camper, this past holiday!

For this canvas I used a number of ideas found in "Collage couture Studio Paper Dolls." I printed one of the five dolls in the book (Kyoko) and her line drawn outfits. I cut out 2 pieces from the outfits, a top and pants. Then I traced them onto two pieces of origami paper and cut those out as well as the doll. I placed soft pads on her back for depth after I glued the top and pants in place.

The Pagoda was traced and cut from a template in the book, using scrapbook paper. The background scrapbook paper was ripped and adhered to the 12x12" canvas. I sealed the background using Beacon Decoupage. Old rice paper was stamped in red using a collection of rubber stamps. This was ripped and glued in place.

The doll was adhered to the canvas and assorted flowers were used to embellish the piece.

I had so much fun creating this piece! Maybe I will do a French one next!

https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/JuliaSpiri?ref=l2-shopheader-name
There i a new challenge and a new year at World Wide Open Design Team challenge. For this month's Julia Spiri card, I chose Little Carmen. I loved working on her so much, that I made two cards with this image!

I colored Little Carmen using Copic Markers. For the first card, she was cut out leaving a narrow white edge and placed on soft pads to create a 3D illusion. I layered two pieces of card stock and placed them on a black car. I adhered Carmen to the top and embellished the corners with gems.

For the second card, I placed Carmen in the Craft Artist 2 program and merged her with elements from the Mediterranean Market digikit. I printed the image in the scene and then printed the image without the scene. I cut the second image out and put soft pads on the back. I created a 3D scene when she was placed on top. I matted the scene on green card stock and adhered it to a blank card.

I'm looking forward to seeing your entries into the World Wide Open Design Team challenge.

Love is in the Air Card

As soon as I saw this image I had to have it, for my birthday gift from Cute as a Button Stamps!

I colored the cutie with Copic Markers and placed it in the Craft Artist 2 program. The colored image was merged with the sky digital from Scrapper's Delights. I printed it twice, once with the entire scene and once with the little girl with out the sky. I cut out the second print.

I embellished the cut image with Stickles Glitter Glue and enhanced the hearts with Glossy Accents.

The cut image was placed on soft pads and adhered to the top of the full scene, giving it a 3D illusion. The composition was glued to printed card stock and then to a basic white card. Four tiny pearls were added to the upper right side corner.

Thanks for the digi, Cute as a Button, she was a blast to work on!

Carla's Dress shop Canvas

I love designing clothes and my doll clothes were very nice indeed! Now I am enjoying designing paper doll outfits and settings. It brings back some great memories!

This canvas was inspired by Julie Nutting's book "Collage Couture Studio Paper Dolls Designs, Collage, Cut and Play." Of course it's not the same, although I did try to use similar supplies I had in m art room. check for yourself beginning on page 51.

For designing with Julie Nutting's paper doll, check my lesson on my blog: carla-writes.blogspot.com/2016/12paper-doll-piecing-addictive-habit.

The settings on canvas have given me a new way to have fun with an old hobby. Try it!
